Road traffic signal lights are actually a type of lighting fixtures that we usually see on the road when crossing the street, commonly known as traffic lights, with three light colors: red, yellow, and green. The application of road traffic signal lights can improve road traffic safety and road capacity, thus alleviating traffic and improving traffic conditions. In general, road traffic signal lights need to be grounded. Because after installing the grounding wire, it can prevent lightning strikes.

Precautions for Installing the Grounding Wire of Road Traffic Signal Lights:

1.When grounding, use a VV1×16mm² cable as the grounding wire, which is laid in the same pipe as the control wires, connected to the transformer grounding grid, and then connected to each lamp post. The lightning protection grounding of the lamp posts shares the same grounding body. Use a φ20×2m hot-dip galvanized round steel as the grounding electrode. The grounding electrode and the lamp post should be reliably connected. The resistance of a single grounding electrode (including the distribution box and control box) should be less than 10 ohms, and the resistance of the grounding grid should be less than 4 ohms.

2.Ensure that the junction boxes are reliably connected to the ground wires of different circuits and their respective circuits.

3.The lightning protection and grounding throughout the road should be continuous.

4.The neutral wire should be repeatedly grounded at the transformer.

5.From the transformer, a common protective neutral wire with a separate grounding core of 35mm² should be connected to each pole, and the outer casings of all electrical iron parts such as junction boxes should be grounded.

6.For the lightning protection of road traffic signal light poles, use the reinforced concrete foundation as the grounding body. One end of the hot-dip galvanized round steel for grounding is fixed on the screw rod with a nut, and the other end is welded to the steel bars of the lamp post foundation. The weld seam should be at least 100mm long.

7.One end of the pre-embedded steel pipe for crossing the street of road traffic signal lights must be reliably connected to the grounding wire. The repeated grounding on the neutral wire should have a grounding resistance R≤4Ω; the grounding device of low-voltage electrical equipment should have a resistance R≤4Ω. All grounding welding points should be coated with asphalt oil for anti-corrosion treatment.
