What are the bases for installing road traffic signal lights?
LED traffic signal lights are a type of traffic lights used to allocate effective right-of-way to conflicting traffic flows, so as to improve road traffic safety and road capacity. They generally consist of red lights, green lights, and yellow lights. The red light indicates no passage, the green light indicates permission to pass, and the yellow light indicates a warning. In the current specifications, the regulations regarding the bases for installing LED traffic signal lights are too general. Then, what are the bases for installing road traffic signal lights? The following will introduce them to you.
(1) When the road width is greater than 15m, that is, at intersections where there are more than four lanes for the mixed traffic of motor vehicles and non-motor vehicles, and the peak hourly traffic flow at the intersection exceeds 1,200 vehicles, motor vehicle signal lights should be installed.
(2) At intersections where motor vehicle lane traffic signal lights are installed, when there are 3 or more approach lanes at the intersection and there are left-turn, straight-ahead, and right-turn guiding lanes on the ground, lane control should be implemented, and lane signal lights should be installed.
(3) At intersections where motor vehicle lane LED signal lights are installed, when the intersection is an intersection of two-way four-lane roads with two-way four-lane roads, and the left-turn traffic flow of the approach lane in one direction accounts for more than 15% of the traffic flow of that approach lane, a three-phase control should be adopted; when the left-turn traffic flows of the approach lanes in both directions exceed 15% of the traffic flow of their respective approach lanes, a four-phase control should be adopted.
(4) At intersections where motor vehicle lane LED signal lights are installed, when the intersection is an intersection of a two-way four-lane road with a two-way six-lane road or a two-way eight-lane road, for the two-way four-lane direction, according to the size of the left-turn traffic flow, when the left-turn traffic flow exceeds 15% of the traffic flow of this approach lane, a separate left-turn phase should also be adopted.
(5) For three-fork intersections, when setting the phases of LED traffic signal lights, the coordination of left turns, straight-ahead movements, and right turns at the entire intersection, as well as the safety of pedestrians crossing the street, should be fully considered. Currently, in many cities, a three-phase control is adopted for the signal lights at three-fork intersections. This control method brings great potential safety hazards to pedestrians crossing the street, and the traffic order at the entire intersection is chaotic, making accidents prone to occur.
